Pambansang Kamao Manny Pacquiao is on the cover of the Reader’s Digest… well, it’s about time!

The cover screams “Manny Pacquiao: Fighting for the People” and features Pacquiao in his boxing shorts, eyes focused, ready to fight. A seven-page story about him is also featured, and its aptly titled, “More Power: Manny Pacquiao in the Fight of His Life”.

                       

  Manny Pacquiao Graces Ring Magazine's June Cover

Seven-division champion, Manny Pacquiao, has done it again.

The Filipino superstar graces the June cover The Ring Magazine once more.

Editors at the prestigious publication believe that Pacquiao has been on its cover "between 12-to-15 times," said Joe Santoliquito, managing editor of Ring Magazine.

"But Manny's easily been on the cover more than any fighter the last five years," said Santoliquito, "rivaled only by Floyd Mayweather." 

The photo was shot by Howard Schatz, who is also executing similar work with the fighters in Showtime's Super Six Super Middleweight (168 pounds) World Boxing Classic.

"World-renowned photographer, Howard Schatz, took this photo of Pacquiao, and it's simply one of the most artistic covers on the long, storied history of The Ring," said Santoliquito.

"Schatz is currently working on a photography book about boxing that promises to be riveting," said Santoliquito, "just like the June 2010 issue of The Ring."

PRO: The Filipino prizefighter — better known as "Pac-Man" — stunned the boxing world in December by defeating Oscar De La Hoya. He's readying a move into politics, where his popularity should land him another knockout: Pacquiao's bouts are so heavily viewed in the Philippines, the crime rate goes down when he brawls.

CON: Fans have been vocally displeased with his decision to go into politics. And he has a lot of fans.

On the heels of his first primetime television appearance on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live and his recognition as a 2009 Gusi Peace Prize laureate, boxing phenom Manny Pacquiao now finds himself on the cover of TIME Magazine Asia edition (see below) as part of a five page feature story on the boxing Champion that will be included in all editions (global and US market) of the magazine hitting newsstands this weekend. With the population of Asia being the largest in the world, Pacquiao is overwhelmed with the idea of so many people seeing his face on the cover of such a prestigious magazine.
“I absolutely had no idea that when I started my career in boxing, to provide a better life for myself and my family, that I would now be where I am today and on the cover of TIME Magazine,” said Pacquiao. “A fighter’s dream is to win a world title and gain financial stability. But what is happening to me now is the most humbling experience of my life. It is a great honor for me to be the face of my people and to let everyone know we are a small but mighty country. I have great pride for all of the Filipinos living throughout the world and it is these people that I fight for each and every time I step into the ring.”
